Build Brain Power, Protect Against Alzheimer Disease!

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Build Brain Power, Protect Against Alzheimer Disease! It is really sad to see a loved one get Alzheimer Disease. Our mom was
diagnosed with it and soon died after a couple years. She lived alone
and was an avid painter and a golfer. First she forget where her house
was when driving home. Then it came to putting her in a home, where we
hung her paintings and she did not even remember that she was the one
that had painted them. At one time in her live she hit a hole in one
while playing golf and soon did not even remember being a golfer.
When going to visit her in the home, we were unsure if she would
remember us or not, some times she would, and other times she would
not. It is a very emotional thing to have to go through for the loved
ones around a Alzheimer patient. Our family is now doing everything
we can to prevent Alzheimer disease to happening to anyone else in our
family. It may not be possible to completely prevent memory lapses, but you
can hold on to a quick and sharp mind as you get older. Scientist are
finding that brains can actually repair themselves. By doing studies,
they have found that the more you use your brain, the more active your
mind becomes. The more active your mind becomes, the healthier you
become. Scientist did a study from ages 20 to 70. With practice they found
that 70 year olds did just as well as the 20 year olds. They found
that by stimulating your mind, you preserve your memory. Scientist say
your brain is like a muscle, the more you use it, the stronger it
becomes. Other research found that the more you use your brain, the less
chances of getting Alzheimer disease. They discovered that people with
less than an eighth grade education had twice the risk of developing
Alzheimer than those with a formal education. They found this group of
people are just not exercising their brain enough. By keeping your body physically active you get more blood flow to the
brain. By keeping your brain constantly learning, you get less
diseases. Your mind will benefit from an active social life. Playing
games, doing crossword puzzles, learning new things, like a computer,
new technology and having stimulating conversations. By doing this you
will find that not only do you enjoy your life more, but that you also
have more energy. Your brain also needs to relax, it can not always be wound up to tight
or it kills off brain cells. Meditating twenty to sixty minutes a day
will also make your brain sharper and relieve stress. Stress is the
leading cause of mental deterioration as you age. Stress can kill off
valuable cells in your body as well as in your brain. Do not hold
things in, talk about them with a loved one or close friend. Focus on
your breathing, by taking in some deep breaths you can relax. Build your brain power, fight against Alzheimer disease and continue
to stay physically fit and challenge your brain every day. Do this and
you will be able to enjoy your life to the fullest.

Top paying public health jobs and how to get them

Friday, October 30th, 2009

As the world population in Western countries ages, environmental conditions and social infrastructure continue to deteriorate and demand for health care services increases, it is a fact that public health and environmental science will be growth industries. Earning a public health degree or environmental science degree from an Australian college can go a long way toward helping you to get a top-paying job in one of these expanding fields.

There are good reasons to study such subjects at a college in Australia. This country faces a number of interesting and difficult environmental issues as well as public health problems (Australians suffer from some of the world's highest rates of mesothelioma – read on); those who pursue degree programs in this country have an excellent opportunity to see these problems up close, as well as how they are being addressed.

Another reason to study in Australia; college overseas gives one a much broader perspective – and this is something that prospective employers appreciate.

If you already have a public health degree, attending college in Australia is a good way to complete continuing education requirements and advance in your career. At an Australian college, you will have to opportunity to see how that society addresses many of the issues that faces the U.S. today and will be able to study what works, what doesn't, and why.

Prospective oncologists will have some unique opportunities in Australia. Colleges of medicine in this country are able to study what is a very rare disease. Asbestos cancer has been much more common in Australia than other parts of the world, as asbestos mining was a major industry for decades. While this is a tragedy, it provides those specializing in oncology to study this unusual form of the disease in a range of patients. This is only one reason why completing a public health degree in Australia is an excellent idea.

Environmental science is another part of public health policy, and here too, Australian colleges offer some unique opportunities. Not only is Australia unique in many ways, the country is facing some major challenges, having been in a state of drought for decades. An environmental science degree through a college in Australia affords the opportunity to study how Australians are managing increasingly scare water resources – yet another issue that is faced by many western states.

According to MSN Money, 13 out of the 15 highest-paying jobs in the U.S. today are in health care industries. Get started today with a public health degree from an Australian college.

Wayne Hemrick writes about--getting a public health degree from an australian college.

Know about various advantages of ebook readers

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Books open another world for us. They take us to places where we cannot go otherwise. They are the best source of information. We can access all kinds of information just by reading a book.
With the advent of internet came e books. E books are even more easily accessible. We can get a book just by the click of a mouse. With e books becoming so popular there had to be a device which could be used to easily access and store e books and the most important thing, easily read these e - versions of books. And so ebook reader was introduced.
An ebook reader has various advantages. These advantages are discussed below.
E books are a healthy substitute for paper books. Carrying heavy load of books to school or college on a regular basis can give rise to a number of health issues. Many cases of students suffering from back pains and other health problems due to the heavy load of books that they carry, has been reported. Many things like comfortable bags and other things have been tried out. But they have not proved to be of much help. An ebook readers solves all these problems. Students can store all their books in this and instead of carrying all the books to school or college one can carry the e versions of all the books in this small device. All the universities and schools must allow the use of this device in their campuses.
Students waste so much of their time buying the right books each semester. Most of the students go for second hand books which have missing pages. E books have no such problems. If the colleges provide the facility of e books, the students can easily keep a copy of each in their reader and there will be no problem of missing pages as such. The college authorities should build a certain centralized site from where the students can download all their books for each semester.
Another important advantage is that it saves a lot on expenses. For a one time investment an amount like $ 400 or 500 seems a big amount, but if one were to add up the cost of all the books that one would buy during the whole course it would be far more than this. An e book would cost around $ 9.99 but still the total cost of buying paper books would be much more. And this device also helps you in saving a lot of time that you would have otherwise wasted on buying books.
These books are environment friendly. If e books replace the books everywhere like in school, colleges, home, library and even business it will help in reducing carbon footprints of each individual. Paper books involve a lot of activities like production, then storing, transport and then disposal. An ebook does not involve any such activity which makes it more environment friendly.
With all these advantages e book readers are definitely a hit when compared to the traditional typed literature. The other very big attraction is the vast amount of sizzler ebooks that are available through these readers. So take advantage of this amazing device and save yourself as well as the environment from the burden of paper books.

Definition of Education

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

It's important to understand that the success of an entrepreneur is not measured by how much education he or she has or how many years of experience are under his or her belt. An entrepreneur's success is measured by achievements, not words on a resume.

More and more people are finding they can earn their degree from an accredited online university which offers the same challenge and quality of a traditional classroom in an environment which allows them to fit education into a life that might be too busy for a more conventional method of instruction.

Physical education was officially recognized in the United States in the early 1800’s. Colleges and Universities began to offer physical education programs throughout the 1800’s. Finally, in 1866 California was the first to mandate physical education. Many states followed this mandate within the next 30 years. The importance of training the body as well as the mind became prevalent in the educational system.

Comparing these salaries to the number of days spent teaching (national average of 185 days) indicates that a teacher’s daily rate ranges from $151 to $226. When factoring the actual time instructing students which varies from elementary to high school, suggests that teachers are not under paid for their efforts. (NOTE: These figures do not include fringe benefits.)

On the contrary, a child must be assured that parents are always there to help in case he or she encounters a problem that is too difficult to solve on one’s own. College experience provides that environment where young people can face the realities of life and see if they can deal with their personal problems themselves. I am sure that college education will give me a chance to become an independent and self-sufficient person capable of dealing with everyday life situations.

CPA's or certified public accountants, need to keep up with the latest laws and be up to date with many of the sometimes arcane accounting principles. Teachers and nursing are two other fields that also require continuing education to remain active in the profession.

To be fair let’s examine the flip side of the coin. The same people who I treasure for their insightfulness and dedication to mothers and their families can sometimes be overwhelming with their crusade. Exaggerations are made about obstetricians and the quality of hospital births and bashing sometimes becomes part of the circle of sharing.

Perhaps small schools in rural areas could institute block scheduling in their schools and share the best teachers in each subject, with the teachers spending a semester at one school and then moving to another; this could not only make it possible for schools to afford the best science and math teachers, which are a rare commodity, but to add extras like music, art, and drama, courses that often aren’t considered necessary, but that provide a tremendous motivation for many students to stay in school.

Advanced psychological researches have concluded that children learn at the fastest pace when they are between 0-6 years of age. Based on this notion, the early child educators design their program that helps boost up the child’s natural learning process.

The first high definition video conferencing was inadvertently tried out by NASA who required to conferencing with astronauts in space. The distance required very high definition video conferencing capabilities and NASA achieved this by using high frequencies to link up and down between the space stations and the earth stations.

The History of the Canadian Flag

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

The current Canadian flag has only two colors, red and white. These were the official colors appointed by King George V in 1921. The flag has verticle strips which are on the left and right sides and cover about one fourth of the flag. The center is white and has a stylized eleven point maple leaf. Canadians call this flag the "Maple Leaf flag". This is the only flag many Canadians, who were born after 1964, have known throughout the whole of their lives.

In 1964 the Canadian government decided to adopt a new and distinctive national flag. This endeavor has the appearance of the impossible dream. The sentiments of Canadians were hardly uniform. Canadians were divided among demographic and ethnic lines. English Canadians born before World War II wanted the flag to retain a visible symbol of Canada's British heritage. French Canadians were opposed to retaining colonial symbols such as the Union Jack. One third of the Canadians were neigther French or British stock and they want a flag which is uniquely Canadian. Younger Canadians, who were born after World War II, were likely to select something new and different. They wanted something which symbolized a clean break from the past.

A House of Commons Committee was established to review potential designs for the new flag. Several designs were proposed, but three designs were presented to the committee for final approval. The three designs consisted of the following:

a. A flag with a red ensign with the fluer-de-lis and the Union Jack
b. A flag with three maple leaves between two blue borders
c. The current red and white flag design with the single maple leaf.

The red and white flag design was was adopted unanimously in October 1964. On October 22, 1964 the Canadian Parliament adopted the flag. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is also the Queen of Canada. She proclaimed the flag into law on February 15, 1965.

Canada's first flag bore England's St. George's cross. The flag was carried over by John Cabot. Cabot reach the east coast of Canada in 1497. Disagreement persists about the exact location of the landing spot. It is eigther Labrador, Newfoundland, Cape Breton or Prince Edward Island. St. George's cross has found itself on many territorial and provincial coats of arms and the center cross of the Union Jack.

Camp School Activities – Colegio Luso Internacional do Porto – A Study by Artur Victoria

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Residential camp school activities lasting for a couple of days or, more commonly, for about a week, provides pupils with an opportunity of studying the natural environment and people's life and activities away from the locality where their school is situated. Thus these activities are an integral part of regular teaching and provide a valuable supplement to ordinary school work. At the start of a new school level, they provide teachers and pupils with a good opportunity of getting to know one another.

In its narrower sense, the term working method denotes the method employed in pursuit of a goal, e.g. the acquisition or transmission of knowledge and skills.

Sometimes the working method to be used is obvious. Co-operation cannot be learned without practice, nor can one learn to plan an assignment and report on it plainly and coherently without applying a working method which makes this necessary, and one can never learn to assume responsibility for the common satisfaction unless responsibility is conferred and the appropriate demand is made.

In a number of cases the working method employed is a means of attaining something else, e.g. certain skills or insights. As a means to an end, the working method employed must be subjected to constant appraisal, so as to ascertain what is most efficient in different contexts, for different age groups, in different school environments, for different teachers and for individual pupils.

Experience hitherto has suggested that, for the sake of efficient learning, the working method employed should be governed by the following principles.

Work on different fields of subject matter should take as its starting point the pupils' image of reality. The teacher must try to build on the pupils' innate curiosity, allowing them to formulate and seek the answers to their own questions, and presenting problems which arouse their spirit of inquiry. Work should therefore start with something topical or near at hand. But it is equally important that teaching should then take the pupils further and broaden their apprehension of reality in time and space. Reality is not confined to society and the natural environment; it also includes emotional experience, cultural life, questions of belief, and ideals of different kinds.

If work in many cases can emanate from problems posed by the pupils themselves, schools will have good prospects of training the pupils in problem solving. They should realize the importance of acquiring sound knowledge as a means of making further progress, selecting the important knowledge in the context, drawing logical conclusions, testing each other's arguments and, finally, putting forward a solution.

Alternation between observations, theory and practice is often the best working method. In this way the pupils can acquire knowledge by investigating, observing and experiencing for themselves. They can learn to sift their observations critically, to range and deploy them in wider contexts. They can endeavor to draw conclusions from them, and they can learn to perceive relationships in society and the natural environment. They can then be given an opportunity of testing their theories and applying what they have learned.

With a working method of this kind, the teacher plays an active part in inducing the pupils to work critically, to realize the value of their observations, to reflect, to ask questions, to learn to sift, arrange and present subject matter. The teacher must also play an active part in directing the pupils' investigations into essential fields and in preventing them from getting bogged down in minutiae.

The active role allotted to the teacher highlights the importance which should be attached to discussions and co-operation between teacher and pupils. The teacher must not limit his contribution to merely organizing the work situations and then allowing activities to be guided by previously produced assignments. A working method of this impersonal kind is foreign to the aim of compulsory school to help its pupils achieve a process of all round development. But a working method involving alternation between observations, theorization and practice does not by any means suit every situation. Nobody can obtain direct experience of everything, and pupils must therefore also be familiarized with a working method whereby they share the experience of others. They must learn to make use of books, libraries and various media.

One should, however, beware of the tendency for verbal information to get the upper hand. Schools have sometimes limited observations and experiments and omitted practical exercises in order to save time. A one sided working method of this kind can easily cause school fatigue where many pupils are concerned. Practical exercises must be given generous scope in ordinary school work, in projects and in depth studies. The knowledge which the pupils acquire must be applicable to concrete tasks of different kinds or to discussion, creative activities and personal development. Practical exercises are the only way in which pupils can make knowledge their own property and acquire consolidated and meaningful insights.

Courses must therefore not be encumbered with general introductions covering wide fields of knowledge and leaving the pupil with no time for applying their new-found knowledge to assignments of different kinds.

Why You Should Go to College

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

The fact that anyone does not want to go to college is absolutely astounding. That they think they will be better off graduating from high school and getting a jog--that that somehow makes them "free" is absolutely ridiculous. Not only is college necessary for a successful future, it is actually fun.

The Alternative

The alternative to college is to graduate from high school, move out on your own, and get a job. If your rational for not going to school is that you are an adult, well then be an adult and don't live at home with mom and dad. Getting a job without a college degree is incredibly difficult. Whereas perhaps 30 or 40 years ago you could have just a high school diploma and be successful, today a college degree is considered the bare minimum of education. If you are lucky enough to get a job, you will have to work at least 9 to 5 for a low wage that will barely cover all of the bills that come with being an adult: rent, car payments, food, electric, etc... The first and foremost reason to go to college is that the alternative is miserable and a dead end. Education is important and necessary if you want to be successful and able to enjoy your life.

It's Fun!

While high school may not be for most and some people hate school from Kindergarten on, college is not like that. College is basically a four year vacation and party. Yes there are classes, yes there is school work--all of which is important to get done, no sense in paying all the money for college if you're going to fail out--but classes and work do not take up most of your time. College is filled with keg parties and football games and living on your own without footing the bill and without mom and dad telling you what time to be home and asking where you are going. College has all of the perks of being an adult and living on your own without out all of the downsides. The majority of people who have graduated from college will say how much they wish they could go back and those who are in college never want to leave. College is four of the most fun years one will have in their lifetime.

You Choose

Up until college all of your educational decisions were chosen for you, what classes you took and what teachers you had. In college you get to study what interests you. You decide what classes you take, which professors you have, and what your major is. You may not have liked school when you were forced to take classes, but when you are studying things that you enjoy and are interested in, you might find that you actually enjoy school. You choose what you want to take and in effect choose your future. College will prepare you for a successful career with options that are limitless and you will have fun doing it.

Scholarships for Moms: Why Obama Is Behind It

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

President Barack Obama has provided government funding for mothers to go back to school. It will be an enriching experience for the mothers to get involved in a professional environment after dealing with their children most of the time, but there is a more important reason ? to fuel the workforce with valuable employees. There are many jobs out there that need filled but there is a lack of workers that have the necessary skills to do these jobs.

A lot of these moms have likely thought about going back to school and entering a career in a field they have always dreamed about working in, but this is merely a dream to them. Well Obama thinks it can become a reality if they are willing to do the work necessary to receive their college degree. The funding is awarded is a gift, not a loan, meaning that it does not have to be paid back.

Interested moms need to first decide what their course of study will be, and then pick the school where they will go. It is important to make sure the right school has the program you are interested in. Make sure to do thorough research so that you are making the right choices as far as your education. Some colleges let you do the studying at home, using an online degree program, which is convenient for moms with busy schedules. They still will have to set aside enough time to take the online classes and study to ensure a successful experience.

It might seem too challenging to go back to school, but just think about the rewards you will experience once the degree is earned. You will be able to find a valuable career and earn more income to support the family, and your children will be excited about the achievement you have accomplished.

So what's holding you back? Take advantage of a $10,000 scholarship drawing. Registration is free if you visit http://www.scholarshipsformomsfinder.info/
